Overview

As Electricity Decarbonization Lead, you will play a pivotal role in deepening Carbon Direct’s technical expertise in the low-carbon electricity space. You will work with colleagues across the Science Team in supporting our customers on their decarbonization journey, with a specific focus on electric power decarbonization. In this role, you will provide technical guidance to clients on the transition to clean energy sources, incorporating evolving standards and staying abreast of the latest scientific advances in the field.  You will evaluate the quality of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), assess opportunities for on-site renewable generation, identify third-party REC and PPA providers, and actively shape Carbon Direct's understanding of relevant policies and methodologies within this space.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Decarbonization Solutions: Work closely with clients to understand their electricity decarbonization needs and develop tailored solutions to help them achieve their sustainability targets, particularly with regard to Scope 2 emissions.
  • Evaluate PPAs and RECs: Lead the process of evaluating the technical quality of Power Purchase Agreements and Renewable Energy Certificates, ensuring that Carbon Direct’s offering in this space meet our standards for quality and climate impact.
  • Assess on-site renewable generation opportunities: Support clients in assessing the potential of their facilities for on-site renewable power generation, including the use of methods for estimating generation potential and general familiarity with relative advantages and drawbacks of on-site generation.
  • Support Third-Party Relationships: Assist with the maintenance of relationships with external REC and PPA providers, ensuring the seamless delivery of products and services to our clients.
  • Methodology Development: Stay abreast of industry trends and technical best practices in electricity decarbonization and develop Carbon Direct's position on environmentally sound methodologies, ensuring that our solutions are at the cutting edge of sustainability efforts.
  • Technical Expertise: Be the subject matter expert on electricity decarbonization, providing guidance to both internal teams and clients on the latest advancements, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies in the field.
  • Project Management: Coordinate and manage multiple decarbonization projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and research, to ensure that the company's decarbonization offerings align with market demands and client needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as environmental science, energy management, or business; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in energy and power decarbonization and renewable electricity procurement.
  • Strong expertise in Power Purchase Agreements, Renewable Energy Certificates, and renewable energy markets.
  • Exceptional communication and management skills.
  • Project management experience with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends.
  • Ability to work independently, make data-driven decisions, and drive results.
  • Strong passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship.
